We are very excited and looking forward to seeing you this Sunday! The race starts at 8:00 AM.

The deadline to sign up on-line is tomorrow, September 12th at 12:00 PM. DO NOT fret if you miss the on-line deadline  – you can still register in-person this Friday, September 13th from 5-8 PM at Road Runner Sports in Kildeer (right next to Whole Foods in the Kildeer Marketplace) or on-site SUNDAY, September 15th right before the event.    

The best way to access the Shelter A parking lot at Lakewood Forest Preserve is from N. Fairfield Road. Turn onto Ivanhoe Rd. (opposite entrance from the Winter Sports area), and the parking lot is on the right.

Preparing for the Race

According to LIVESTRONG.COM here are the best foods to eat before running a 5K:

  1. Peanut Butter Toast Sandwich with Banana Slices and Honey – two slices of whole wheat toast spread with 1 tbsp. of low-fat peanut butter, a medium banana and a half-ounce drizzle of honey will fill you up with energy carbs balanced with just enough protein. (345 calories and 9.8 grams of proteins)
  2. Oatmeal with Applesauce – warm bowl of oatmeal (made with water instead of milk) topped with applesauce and sprinkled with cinnamon. (293 calories and 8.3 proteins)
  3. Bagel with Low-Fat Cream Cheese – Smart choice in pre-race food. (326 calories and 10.6 proteins)
  4. Energy Bars – choose a high-carb/high-protein bar to give you the needed energy to RUN or WALK FAST!
